66 or 67
Exploring self image and attitudes to ageing through photography projects. I have begun my exploration process by using an Instax Square instant camera to gather images and stories. By asking the participants to write on the instant prints we were able to capture each story in a nutshell. Visit the 66 or 67 page to see images from this project. |
Still Sound
A collaborative creative project exploring the interpretation of narrative using audio. An open call for collaborations with musicians, spoken word artists and sound artists - visit the Still Sound page and see the results of this collaborative work. |
Photography & Me, The Early Years
I was brought up surrounded by photography. My father worked as a freelance photographer and he had his darkroom in an old bathroom, downstairs in our home in Twickenham, Middlesex. My earliest memories are of creating prints from leaves placed directly onto photographic paper underneath the enlarger. I used to love watching my Dad and helping him develop and print black and white photographs. As a special treat I was allowed to pass the pictures through the glazer to give them a gloss finish. Using a fine paint brush and special black paint, my Dad used to touch up photographs where a speck of dust had created blemishes. I want to go back to those simpler days of photography where story, composition and lighting are key. Following these principles, I use a digital camera, available light and do little, if any, editing. The spirit of my father lives in and inspires my work. What is a good photograph? My Dad's answer "One that you would be happy to hang on your wall."
