66 or 67
As part of my Arts Council England DYCP activity I wanted to investigate the creative project potential of exploring attitudes towards retirement and the stories that are often hidden behind an exterior image.
I have begun my exploration process by using an Instax Square instant camera to gather images and stories. By asking the participants to write on the instant prints we were able to capture each story in a nutshell. Here are the first two anthologies focussing on self image of ageing and career journeys. These are questions I often ponder on when thinking about my own life and experience.
One of the first things I learned was that, as opposed to pensionable age, retirement age and retirement activity vary widely. The original working title was 'Retirement' which evolved into '66' referring to pensionable age. Then I discovered I can't get my pension (and more importantly my bus pass) until I'm 67!
