Artist / Facilitator

My work as an artist and arts facilitator has a broad reach combining a variety of disciplines.  I enjoy research based projects, where I can immerse myself in the exploration of a subject through human stories, histories and objects and the alchemy which then generates art around them.  Scroll down to see examples of my creative engagement work.
My day rate for art, craft and digital media workshops for 2026 is £300 per day and I am happy to negotiate discounts depending on circumstances.  I enjoy making creative engagement accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for all ages and abilities.

Embedding Creativity in the Research Ideation Process 2026

I was invited to deliver a two-hour hands-on creative research workshop at The University of Exeter.  The workshop was part of a day long in-person event, Embedding Creativity in the Research Ideation Process which was a Researcher-led initiative funded by the University of Exeter Researcher Development and Research Culture team.

Below is a free downloadable PDF guide to the activities I delivered in the session; useful creative warm ups and activities for researchers to use as part of their own process as well as with research participants.

Wish You Were Here! 2026

Wish You Were Here! is a unique creative project exploring the North Devon Coast National Landscape through experimental photography, inspired by traditional seaside postcards.  Based at Croyde and Baggy Point, over the February half term 2026, socially engaged artist and photographer Carole Evans and I worked with a group of 8 young people aged between 10 and 15 years old:
  • Making connections through creativity
  • Exploring the coastline and recording the landscape around them using digital cameras and alternative photographic processes
  • Creating beautiful images, inspired by postcards and landscape photographers, to tell their own story of the land
  • Creating their own postcards to send their messages far and wide around the world.

Sunrise Diversity 2025

As part of the North Devon Riverlands project, individuals and families from Sunrise’s ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) and LGBTQ+ groups came together for a fun and friendly day of creativity. We made an installation of willow, swifts, insects and words inspired by our expedition through rewilding land at the estate.

It was awe inspiring to think that the swifts who were heard calling and seen swooping for flies in the skies over Arlington this summer could have been the same birds encountered by some of our group in their home country of Sierra Leone in West Africa a couple of years ago.

The rewilding and rewetting work being carried out by the National Trust at Arlington means more wild water, more invertebrates and a better, more welcoming environment for migratory birds.

The Burton at Bideford 2024-2026

As a freelance arts and crafts facilitator I have led one-off and short course workshops with children and young people at the Burton at Bideford and off-site at schools in the region.  I have worked with a variety of groups including Art 4 Home Ed, Journey Through Art, Young Carers, Photography Month, the Art Box Camera Obscura and Summer Film School.

Home Educators at RAMM 2024

Inspired by the collections in the World Cultures gallery at RAMM I facilitated two one-day events with home educating families at RAMM in Exeter.  We explored the cultures and crafts of First Nations in Northern America and the tradition of poi in Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Speak Up 2023/2024

As part of the National Theatre's Speak Up schools programme, I worked with Landmark Theatres in North Devon and SEND students from Lampard Community School in Barnstaple who, with the help of local artists, used their voices as artivists and craftivists to Speak Up about issues that matter to them!

Project Buzz at RAMM Exeter 2023

Commissioned by the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter (RAMM) and working with Devon Wildlife Trust and local Rainbows, Guides and Brownies, we explored the natural history collections at the Museum for creative inspiration.  The artworks created will be exhibited in the cafe at RAMM from June 2023.

Tarka Line Creatives - Tackling Loneliness with Transport

Tarka Line Creatives (TLC) was an exciting creative wellbeing project, working in partnership with One Northern Devon and supported by Devon County Council's Connecting You initiative, tackling loneliness with transport.

From December 2022 until March 2023 we travelled, in small groups, on the Tarka Line Railway from Barnstaple in North Devon exploring nature and landscapes with photography and creative writing.  The Tarka Line Creatives Exhibition was held at Barnstaple Library from Monday 24 April to Saturday 29 April 2023.

Where the River Meets the Sea 2022

Working with local outdoor arts and performance company Red Herring Productions and sound artist Ed Jobling, I facilitated Year 6 leavers from East-the-Water Primary School in connecting with the landscape and wildlife of Northam Burrows Country Park at Westward Ho!

Using photography, creative writing, audio recordings and crafts, these creative young people immersed themselves in the beauty and wildness of the landscape whilst supporting and bonding with eachother before moving on to secondary school.  The resulting exhibition comprised a poetry sound walk, poetography and individual zines reflecting on their experience at Northam Burrows.

This project was supported by the North Devon Coast AONB.

Workshop Facilitator - COTIDAL (Tania Kovats & Time and Tide Bell) 2022

For COTIDAL I delivered several workshops in and around Appledore in North Devon to create audio and video clips as content for Tania Kovats's ambitious film project.
I worked with diverse groups of participants including young people at Bideford's Space Youth Services, women supported by Encompass's Women First Project, members of the Appledore community and children from Appledore Primary School.  Below is a collection of photographs from a creative day at Appledore Primary school responding to the question "What do you see when you see the sea?"  The class brainstormed their ideas as groups and then used recycled materials to make sea creatures and marine objects for their video backdrop.

Taking part behind and in front of the camera, the children interviewed eachother to produce video clips, some of which were selected by Tania Kovats to be a part of her pilot COTIDAL film.
Some more "What do you see when you see the sea?" creations I made to inspire participants in the COTIDAL community group and drop-in workshops."

Artist in Residence - Ilfracombe Museum 2021

In 2021 I was engaged as Artist in Residence for the Stay Curious project at Ilfracombe Museum as part of Art Fund's Respond & Reimagine programme. I worked with the Museum and local community to create an art installation and a timetable of family activities and events inspired by the weird and wonderful natural world exhibits at Ilfracombe Museum.

Community Arts Engagement

I have worked on numerous community projects, engaging people of all ages with creative arts.  I always give a camera to participants to allow them to document an activity process and reveal the experience from their point of view.  Gallery of images below.
