Wish You Were Here!

Photography Project for Young People in North Devon

February Half Term 2026

Picture
Wish You Were Here! (WYWH) is a unique creative project exploring the North Devon Coast National Landscape through experimental photography.  Making connections through creativity with friends, families and likeminded people all around the world.

Open to young people aged between 10 - 15 and free to take part.

Based at Croyde and Baggy Point, we will spend four sessions over the February half term 2026,
  • Exploring the coastline and recording the landscape around us using digital cameras and alternative photographic processes.
  • Inspired by postcards and landscape photographers, we will create beautiful images which we can use to tell our story of the land.
  • We will then create our own postcards which will be exhibited and shared with others around the world.

To apply to take part, see further information and application form below.  We value unique perspectives and experiences and particularly welcome applications from young people from global families.

CAROLE EVANS

www.caroleevans.co.uk
I am a socially engaged artist who tells stories using photography and (more recently) textiles. I have a keen interest in enabling communities to use creative means to tell their story; my own personal practice tells stories of real people, either historically or in the present; and has been described as “little lives telling a global story” (Robin Titchner, Photobook Reviewer). A recent project follows a period as artist in residence at the Bucks Mills Cabin, where I produced lumen prints, photographs, rubbings and a quilt which documented the objects left in the cabin and the stories within. I am also Learning & Engagement Manager at The Burton at Bideford, where I oversee the outreach programme and build relationships with community groups. I am experienced in managing projects, particularly in collaboration with others.

I am a freelance photographer, community artist and project manager. My personal creative focus is socially engaged photography and site-specific visual arts. I have a passion for facilitating arts learning and development for people of all ages and abilities. My work is inspired by the communities and natural environments around me. I am currently exploring immersive environmental art practices as wellness activities for those who feel unseen by their communities and disconnected from the environments around them.
